Questions and answers

Why do we need additional layers of pages before getting to information?

While the website has a specific architecture, a user might land anywhere on Mass.gov from a search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.). If you’ve built your information clearly and used the best keywords, they will most likely land on exactly the page they want. But, for those who start on the homepage or an Organization page, the site architecture is designed to create buckets of related information so it’s easy for someone to navigate to what they need. The links between these layers also create connections that help boost search engine results and deliver the most relevant pages to users there.

This tool can only track links made using the autocomplete fields in the CMS. Using these fields creates a dynamic connection in Drupal that can be tracked, which we use to keep page titles updated, keep links from breaking, calculate page scores, and list pages in the Pages Linking Here tool.

How do I contact authors? What if I can’t find out who the author is?

You can contact authors directly through the CMS. You can also submit a request through ServiceNow if you’re unable to reach the author through the CMS.

What are the best practices for converting content types?

Use Pages Linking Here to update all pages that link to your old content before moving it to the trash. Also, once you have moved it to the trash, be sure to request a Drupal-to-Drupal redirect through ServiceNow. Read more about converting from 1 content type to another.

What are the best practices for creating regulations?

Link to the existing CMRs published by the Courts whenever possible. If you need to add additional comments, documents, or links that are relevant to your specific audience, create your own version of the CMR to use for this purpose.

Where can I find examples of “good” content? Good examples of how to use different content types?

Contact us through ServiceNow if you’re having trouble working with a specific content type or would like some examples.

This is to prevent pages from creating broken links. We recommend creating pages from the bottom up to make creating new chunks of content easier. Map out your pages beforehand, then start with the end points - the How-tos, Info Details, or other child pages - and work your way up to the Service page.
